Music XP
2015 | UX | UI | DIRECTV INTERNSHIP
As part of my Summer Internship at AT&T (Formerly DIRECTV), I worked on UX Design Solution for integrating a music experience on TV and provided ui assets for the build. The core elements of design were driven by interviews I did with participants amongst several age groups to determine what their ideal TV experience would be. The information from the interviews and brainstorming sessions with co-workers helped Eamon Cagney (Software Dev Intern) and I create the Music Experience Project. I worked on the designs We developed as viable prototype of the experience and I worked primarily on the UX/UI design. Video Music Experience is currently an underserved sector of the DIRECTV experience. Since video experience is synonymous to DIRECTV, it is important to leverage this to surface music content.
1 - Content Discovery & Cross Platform Integration
2 - Research Takeaways
I did user testing & competitive analysis to better the understand the landscape. This included best-of-breed music experiences (ranging from streaming services, online radio stations, music recognization experiences, music video platforms, to name a few).
The DIRECTV Music Experience should build and collect the user's taste profile content and information in order to provide good recommendations
A large library of content allows the user to discover content and find the content that is relevant to them
The user should be able to interact with this experience both passively and actively
3 - Competitive Analysis
4 - User Journey
5 - Wireframes
6 - Final Design
After rounds of testing and iteration, we presented the final design and prototype above at the conclusion of our internship.
Music Experience Dock - Carousel of music content that appears while watching The Great Gatsby. Users have option to export to their Spotify account for a continued listening experience.
Music Menu - experience extended into a menu of video-based musical content (musicals, concert footage, talk shows with musical guests…) that is available via DIRECTV as well as via third party providers.
Artist Detail Page - where user can learn more about their favorite artist and see DIRECTV content for that artist.
7 - Conclusion
The design was well received by the DIRECTV executive leadership at our interns’ presentation. It was approved and received funding as a project for that fiscal year.
